Gene Lockhart

Biography

He appeared in the American remake of Pepe le Moko, Algiers, which earned him an Academy Prize nomination for Ideal Supporting Professional. In 1943, he made an appearance in Hangmen Also Die. He produced his performing debut when he was six years of age, appearing using the Kilties Music group of Canada. By age group fifteen, he became involved with sketches and performed soccer for the Toronto Argonauts. Furthermore to performing, he trained stage technique on the Julliard College of Music. He was wedded to stage celebrity Kathleen Lockhart from 1924 until his loss of life in 1957. That they had a child called June. He made an appearance as Sheriff Peter B. Hartwell in the 1940 Howard Hawks film, His Gal Friday.

2Wrote the words to the song "The World Is Waiting for the Sunrise" which became a huge post-WWI hit. Later recorded by Ted Lewis, Benny Goodman, and Duke Ellington'; a version by Les Paul and Mary Ford became a million seller in 1951.
