He was a novelist before making a decision to pursue a profession in the film market. He produced his directorial debut using the 1998 feature Pleasantville, which he also published and created. His dad, screenwriter Arthur A. Ross, elevated him in LA, California. He wedded Allison Thomas, who co-produced Pleasantville and offered as executive maker for Seabiscuit. He aimed Tobey Maguire in both Pleasantville and Seabiscuit.
