African-American comedian who was simply in the initial cast of Sunday Evening Live when it premiered in 1975. In another of his most widely known parts while on SNL, where he spent five years being a ensemble member, he was provided on Weekend Revise as “Leader of the brand new York College for the Hard of Hearing.” He went to the Juilliard College of Music to master his singing tone of voice. Early in his profession, he soloed using the Harry Belafonte performers and performed in several Broadway musicals. In 1994 he was shot within an obvious robbery attempt and acquired to discontinue his function in the sitcom Martin due to it. In 2011, he started playing Earl on it series 2 Broke Young ladies and he made an appearance in the 2015 film Ant-Man. He got wedded to Freda Morris on Sept 20, 1996. He was area of the first Saturday Evening Live ensemble with Gilda Radner.

He studied drama at HB Studio in Greenwich Village in New York City.
Trained in voice at Juilliard, he appeared on stage in many musicals in his pre-SNL days, including "Porgy and Bess," "Hallelujah, Baby," "Show Boat," and others.
First professional work was as a soloist and arranger with the Harry Belafonte singers.
One of the original, albeit least heralded, Not Ready for Prime Time Players of Saturday Night Live (1975), he is best recalled for his characterizations, especially retired Latino baseball player Chico ("baseball been berry berry good to me!" Escuela, and his impressions of 'Sammy Davis Jr'' and Richard Pryor.

Raised by his grandfather, a Baptist minister, and began singing in the church choir.
