Friz Freleng

Biography

Award-winning cartoonist who received 4 Oscars during his profession for his focus on movies like 1947’s Tweetie Pie, 1955’s Quick Gonzales, 1958’s Knighty Knight Insects and 1957’s Birds Anonymous. He got his begin by working in the United Film Advertisement Support in Missouri. After his loss of life, Warner Bros. devoted the animated system, The Sylvester & Tweety Mysteries, to him for his efforts to the studio room. He previously two daughters along with his wife Lily Freleng. While Tex Avery was acknowledged with creating the type of Insects Bunny, he was mainly in charge of the character’s redesign in the ’40s.

1 According to the book "That's All Folks: The Art of Warner Bros. Animation", Freleng directed the greatest number of cartoons of anyone in the Warner Bros. animation units.
2 Profiled in "American Classic Screen Interviews" (Scarecrow Press). [2010]
3 He is regarded as one of the major figures in his field as an animator and as an animation director. He had no formal training in art.
4 Adopted the name Friz after being asked to go by I. Freleng after World War 2 broke out, and not wanting to go simply by an initial. Friz was taken from another artist named Frisby.
5 His colleagues during the Warner Brothers years based the character Yosemite Sam on him. It was based on his short stature and his tendency for sudden explosive outbursts.
