Hard bop and post-hop jazz drummer who used Gene Harris, Andrew Hill, and Richard Davis, amongst others. He started playing drums young, with his first performances becoming with performers like Donald Byrd. He was section of Utmost Roach’s percussion group, M’Boom, playing drums on the 1979 documenting for Columbia Information. His boy Nasheet Waits also became a specialist drummer. He was the drummer behind significant performers like Ella Fitzgerald, Carmen McRae, and Lena Horne.
