Biography

Created Nouhad Wadi Haddad and better known by her stage name Fairuz, this Lebanese vocalist became among the Arab world’s most acclaimed performers. Her several albums consist of Albaalbakiya (1961), Reminiscing with Fairuz (1971), Maarifti Feek (1984), and Eh Fi Amal (2010). She started her rise to popularity in the past due 1950s, after carrying out at Lebanon’s Baalbeck International Event. Shy naturally and susceptible to stage fright, she created a brand still, bowed efficiency style. Her relationship to Assi Rahbani started in 1955 and led to children called Ziad (a prominent composer), Rima, Layal, and Hali. She collaborated with composer and maker brothers Mansour Rahbani (her brother-in-law) and Assi Rahbani (her spouse) on almost twenty musical theatre works.

1Fairuz's family was so poor that she could not buy a radio to listen to music, the thing that she adored since she was a child, so she used to sit at the window of her house to listen to the music coming from other apartments' radios.
2She received "Medal of Honor" from Jordan, "Order of Cedars" from her country Lebanon, Highest artistic distinction from Tunisia, "Key to the Holy City" from Jerusalem Cultural Committee, "Key to the city of Las Vegas" from the United States, "Commandeur des Arts et des Lettres" awarded by French President François Mitterrand alongside another from president Jacques Chirac, Memorial Syrian stamp from the Syrian government, and a list of other honors and awards from other countries.
3In July 2007, Fairuz became the first artist from the Arab World to perform in Greece, at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus.
4She has a sister named Hoda Haddad that resembles her in shape and voice and she too had a musical and acting career but did not get the same recognition as Fairuz.
