Ethan Canin

An American author, instructor, and physician, he’s known for such novels as Blue River (1992) as well as for Kings and Planets (1999). He was the 2010 receiver of a Guggenheim Fellowship. He received an MFA in the Iowa Authors’ Workshop and an MD from Harvard Medical College. He co-founded the SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA Authors’ Grotto. His dad was a violin instructor at the School of Iowa. He was created while his parents had been travelling in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He and Paul Engle both went to the Iowa Authors’ Workshop.
