Composer Frederick Delius’ amanuensis from 1928 until 1934. He added significant amounts of eyesight to Delius’ function. He was appointed organist at Holy Trinity Cathedral when he was 12. He was a generally self-taught composer. His period with Delius was fraught with stress, provided Delius’ mercurial character and their personal spiritual differences. He offered as Delius’ nurse as the composer’s lifestyle faded out and followed his body back again to England. He wedded Rowena Marshall in 1944. He and Delius’ romantic relationship was dramatized for the 1968 BBC creation “Tracks of Summertime,” that was produced and aimed by Ken Russell.
