A twentieth-century American novelist and playwright, he’s most widely known for THE ENTIRE YEAR the Yankees Shed the Pennant, a 1954 novel that he co- adapted in to the popular Broadway music, Damn Yankees. His various other novels are the Sunken Backyard (1956) and Rock (1971). Eleven years after graduating from the School of Maryland, he released his first book, Evening Light. He gained a Tony Prize for Damn Yankees. He wedded Lucille Fletcher in 1949. He and George Abbott co-created Damn Yankees.
