Doris Duke

Cigarette heiress and prominent philanthropist. The child of Wayne Buchanan Duke, she founded Duke Landscapes in NJ (never to become confused using the Sarah P. Duke Landscapes within the NEW YORK campus of Duke University or college) and handled the Doris Duke Charitable Basis. She was raised on Duke Farms in NJ. She improved her father’s currently massive lot of money fourfold and utilized the amount of money to patronize performers and gather antiques. Her grandfather, Washington Duke, began a cigarette monopoly following the Civil Battle, which her dad inherited and approved along to her when she was twelve years of age. She and Barbara Hutton, the billionaire Woolworths heiress, had been both well-known for their family members’ fortunes.
