Like many performers of her period, she was blacklisted from Hollywood through the McCarthy period on her behalf alleged communist sympathies. Her three relationships included a decade-long union with film creation developer Cedric Gibbons. Within the last many years of her relationship to Gibbons, she got an affair with renowned movie director Orson Welles. She and fellow Mexican celebrity Lupe Velez, created just 3 years apart, both got successful professions in Hollywood.
