A chess participant who initial won the country wide tournament in 1983 and became a Grandmaster in 1991. He became the youngest person ever to take part in the Indian Country wide Tournament of chess at age group 12. He was the second-ever Indian to become Grandmaster. He wedded Saheli Dhar Barua. He and Viswanathan Anand had been the very first two Indians to be Grandmasters.
