Poet from the Harlem Renaissance and known for Color, a landmark poetry collection. His various other works consist of Copper Sunlight, Harlem Wines, and Tableau. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from NY University and continued to go after a graduate level in British at Harvard School. He wrote many prose functions for children. Among these, My Lives and exactly how I Shed Them, was created from the idea of watch of his kitty. He was briefly wedded to Yolande Du Bois. Pursuing his divorce, he wed his longtime friend, Ida Mae Robertson. He was a modern of fellow Harlem Renaissance body Langston Hughes.
