Childe Hassam

Impressionist designer who produced a lot more than 3,000 paintings, etchings, and lithographs. Illustrated children’s tales for Harper’s Regular, Scribner’s Monthly, as well as the Century. He went to art college and continued to be an apprentice for an engraver. Early in his profession he also worked well as a visual artist for papers. He was most widely known for his seaside landscapes and metropolitan scenes. His popular function “The Avenue in the torrential rain” from 1917 was installed at The White colored House. He was created in the Dorchester community of Boston, Massachusetts. His dad was an effective businessman who gathered antiques and artwork; his business was damaged by the open fire of November 1872. He and fellow American designer Mary Cassatt both colored within an Impressionistic design and helped popularize it among enthusiasts.
