Carmen McRae

Significant 20th-century jazz vocalist who performed with Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Betty Carter, and additional renowned musicians. She received an NAACP Picture Honor and a Country wide Endowment for the Arts Jazz Experts Honor. Early in her profession, she worked like a jazz pianist in Chicago. She was nominated for Grammy Honours seven occasions between 1971 and 1990. She was raised in Harlem, NY as the child of Jamaican and Costa Rican immigrants. Her two relationships were to music artists Ike Isaacs and Kenny Clarke. She was influenced by the profession and vocal design of jazz great Billie Vacation.
