He made up scores for tv shows at the start of his profession, namely “The Wed Play” and “Play for Today,” both BBC anthology play series. He made up modernized ratings to several classic silent movies including “Ben Hur” and “The Phantom from the Opera,” both from 1925. He wedded celebrity Jean Boht in 1970. He earned a BAFTA Honor for Greatest Film Music for his rating towards the 1981 film “The French Lieutenant’s Female,” starring Meryl Streep.
