Scottish golf legend who went from an impoverished childhood to mingling with Hollywood famous actors. He learned golfing on the neighborhood links, where he obtained the favor of the wealthy and childless widow. He became a member of the PGA in 1921 and began winning tournaments nearly instantly. He and his sibling both learned golfing in Edinburgh, because of their benefactor. He was a runner-up in the 1923 U.S. Open up, losing within a playoff match to the fantastic Bobby Jones.
