Bennie Lee Sinclair

American poet, brief story author, novelist, and previous SC Poet Laureate. Her literary functions include Small Chicago Collection (poems), Appalachian Trilogy (brief fiction), as well as the Lynching (book). Her initial poems were released when she is at first grade; afterwards, she graduated from Greenville SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL and Furman School and continued composing and posting. She was reading a poem for the 1999 inauguration from the SC governor when her paper was impressed; however, without lacking a defeat, she recited her poem from storage. She wedded Don Lewis, a sculptor, in 1958. The few subsequently lived on the animals sanctuary in Greenville State, SC. She and THE COLOUR Purple writer, Alice Walker, had been southern-born literary contemporaries.
