Ben Johnston

Skilled composer who was simply known for composing contemporary music in only intonation. He added significantly to microtonal music. He caused composer and music theorist Harry Partch, from whom he discovered just intonation. He’d later broaden upon the ideas Partch trained him. He was honored a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1959, a Country wide Council over the Arts as well as the Humanities offer in 1966, and received commissions in the Smithsonian Organization. His family members was surviving in Macon, Georgia, when he was created. He came across such avant-garde music artists as La Monte Youthful, Iannis Xenakis, and John Cage while teaching structure and theory on the School of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from 1951 until 1986.
