This prominent socialite and fashion icon served as Vogue magazine’s fashion editor through the late 1930s and 1940s and was named by Time magazine among the world’s best-dressed women. In the past due 1950s, she was inducted in to the International Style Hall of Popularity. Given birth to Barbara Cushing, she was raised in Boston, Massachusetts, as the child of Katharine Rock Crowell Cushing and prominent doctor Harvey Cushing. Her sister Minnie wedded Vincent Astor and her sister Betsey wed the child of Chief executive Franklin D. Roosevelt. She was a good friend of writer Truman Capote. Her second relationship, to Columbia Broadcasting Program (CBS) professional William S. Paley, led to a daughter called Kate and a child called William. Her additional daughter and child, Amanda and Stanley, had been the kids of her 1st spouse, Stanley Grafton Mortimer, Jr. She and fellow socialite Wallis Simpson had been both included promptly magazine’s 1941 best-dressed list.
