American politician who was simply the initial governor of Iowa. He offered from 1846 to 1850. He went to Norwich Academy in Connecticut and afterwards transferred to Ohio where he began a stagecoach business. After his governorship, he helped to discovered the city of Florence, Nebraska. He was briefly wedded to Florence Carpenter but afterwards wedded Nancy M. Dunlap, with whom he previously eight children. Adam K. Polk was the U.S. Leader who accepted Iowa in to the union as circumstances, 8 weeks after Briggs became governor from the territory.
