Annie Jump Cannon


American astronomer who greatly impacted modern stellar classification when she created the Harvard Classification Plan with Edward C. Pickering. She was the 1st female elected as an official from the American Astronomical Culture. She battled scarlet fever while students at Wellesley University, leaving her mainly deaf. She categorized 230,000 stellar body, which gained her the nickname of “Census Taker from the Sky.” Her dad, Wilson Lee Cannon, was a shipbuilder and condition senator. She was among many popular Wellesley University alumnae, a list that could later consist of Hillary Rodham Clinton.
