Brand-new Negro Movement poet from the Harlem Renaissance who became the initial African-American to create work in the Norton Anthology of American Poetry. She was created in Lynchburg, Virginia and shifted with her mom to Western world Virginia, where she grew up by community head William T. Dixie. An area chapter from the NAACP opened up in her home after her loss of life in 1975. Her parents had been Joel Cephus Bannister and Sarah Louise Scales. She wedded Charles Edward Spencer and got three kids with him. She hosted W.E.B. Du Bois and Langston Hughes.
