Polish-born stage performer who was simply the common-law wife of Florenz Ziegfeld as well as the inspiration in back of the Ziegfeld Follies. Early in her profession, she performed in Jewish theaters in London and Paris. During Globe Battle I, she performed for French military and raised cash for the battle effort. She wedded Maximo Carrera in 1894; the few had a girl before divorcing in 1908. She was portrayed by Luise Rainer in the 1936 film THE FANTASTIC Ziegfeld.
