Received the Pritzker Prize in 1992 for the renovation task in Lisbon’s Chiado area. He also designed the Boa Nova Tea Home, the Faculty of Structures, as well as the Serralves Museum of Modern Artwork. He graduated in the School of Porto in 1955; nevertheless, his first task, four Matosinhos homes, was completed in 1954. He also founded an exclusive practice in Porto in 1954.
