Chicago blues singer and nurse who, after going for a short pension, performed deep into her eighties. She documented numerous tunes in her early years, and in the 1940s, she toured using the USO. Arriving in Chicago at age fifteen, she in the beginning found little function beyond brothels and disreputable bones before upscale golf club Dago Frank’s employed her like a soloist.
