Alan Hovhaness

Wrote 434 opus amounts and 67 numbered symphonies, building him among the 20th century’s most prolific composers. He trained upcoming jazz notables Sam Streams and Gigi Gryce while a teacher on the Boston Conservatory from 1948 until 1951. He researched at the brand new Britain Conservatory of Music where he earned the Samuel Endicott award for structure in 1932. He wanted a fresh focus on his structure in the 1930s and 1940s, therefore he destroyed most of his early function, numbering up to 1000 parts. His dad Haroutioun Hovanes Chakmakjian was a chemistry teacher at Tufts University, and his mom Madeleine Scott was of Scottish ancestry and got attended Wellesley University. He noticed a Franz Schubert function when he was four, leading him to create his first piece.
