Well-known for touring and recording with jazz saxophonist Illinois Jacquet, he’s also significant for his session use Dexter Gordon, Oliver Nelson, Leo Parker, and Sonny Stitt. He started playing the piano at a age; at about age group twelve, he began learning both bass and tuba. Early in his profession, he performed with jazz drummer Kaiser Marshall. Through the 1930s and early 1940s, he was an associate from the Royal Sunset Orchestra. Created to a concert pianist mom, he spent his early years in Ontario, Canada, and later on relocated to NEW YORK. Through the 1950s, he documented with jazz guitarist Charlie Byrd.
